Overview

In Teamflect, administrators can configure whether goals and OKRs are public or private by default. Setting all new goals to private helps protect sensitive information and ensures visibility is intentional rather than accidental. Employees can still adjust visibility when appropriate, unless admins enforce privacy for all goals without exception.

If your users want to create public goals or OKRs that will be visible to everyone, they can override this setting by simply selecting another option.

How to Configure Default Goal Privacy

  1. Access the Admin Center

  2. Navigate to Goals Module

    • From the left menu, select Modules > Goals.

Select Privacy Option

  • Choose from one of the three settings:

    • Allow Users to Choose Privacy β†’ End-users select visibility themselves when creating goals.

    • Set Goals as Private by Default β†’ Goals start as Private, but users may change them to Public.

    • Force All Goals to be Private β†’ Users can only create Private goals.

End User Perspective

Allow Users to Choose Privacy

When using this option, your users will be able to set their own privacy settings when creating their goals.

Set Goals as Private by Default

When using this option, Goals will have the Private visibility setting by default. However, users will still be able to make their Goals public:

Force All Goals to be Private

When using this option, your users will only be able to create Private goals:

HR-Focused Use Cases

1. Protecting Sensitive Information

By making goals private by default, employees can safely draft objectives without worrying about premature exposure. This is particularly important for probation goals, confidential projects, or role-specific development plans.

2. Controlled Visibility and Compliance

Administrators maintain control over what becomes public, reducing the risk of sensitive data being widely visible. This aligns with company confidentiality policies and ensures compliance with data protection standards.

3. Encouraging Thoughtful Sharing

When privacy is the default, employees must make an intentional choice to share goals publicly. This ensures that goals visible across the organization are more carefully written, relevant, and aligned with strategic objectives.

Final Thoughts

Configuring goal privacy at the admin level helps HR and leadership strike the right balance between transparency and confidentiality. Making goals private by default minimizes risk, supports compliance, and encourages employees to share objectives more deliberately.
