How can I create a subgoal?

Create a sub‐goal in Teamflect either during goal setup or later via “+ Add new” – choose a new goal or link an existing one.

Subgoals allow you to break larger goals into manageable, actionable steps. By creating subgoals, you can clarify responsibilities, track progress more effectively, and ensure each part of a goal contributes to the overall objective. Whether you’re adding a subgoal when creating a new goal or linking it to an existing one, this guide walks you through each step so you can maintain clear alignment and accountability across your team.

There are two options to create a subgoal:

1. When creating a new goal

If you select a parent goal while you are creating a new goal, the goal that you are creating automatically becomes a subgoal.

2. After you've created the parent goal

You can click "+ Add new" if you want to create the subgoal later.

Here, you have two options: you can create a new goal as a subgoal, or you can select from the existing goals in your company's Teamflect account and connect them to your parent goal with a few clicks.

When selecting from existing goals in the company, you can easily filter the goals by title, owner, and goal type, and then select the desired goal from the search results.

When you select the goal and click "Add", you're good to go!

Beneficial Use Cases

  1. Break down complex goals: Split a big objective (e.g. “Increase sales by 20%”) into smaller sub-goals (like “Launch promo campaign,” “Train sales team”) to track progress more granularly.

  2. Leverage existing goals: Instead of creating duplicates, simply link existing goals to a parent goal to align teams or individuals under a shared target.

  3. Enable roll-up progress tracking: When measurement is set to “Roll-up from subgoal progress,” sub‑goal completion automatically feeds into the parent goal’s progress using weighted values.
