Overview

Teamflect allows you to customize relationship types to reflect your organization’s unique structure, whether for mentorships, project-based roles, or matrix reporting. By editing these relationship types, you can ensure that role definitions, visibility, and access permissions align with how your teams collaborate.

This article walks you through how to edit existing relationship types in Teamflect, including updating names, permissions, and participant roles to better fit your organization’s needs.

Step-by-Step: Edit Relationship Types

1. Access the Admin Center

From the left-hand menu, navigate to: Users > Relationships

2. Then click the Manage Relationship Types button.

3. View & Manage Types

You’ll see a list of all available Relationship Types.

  • Click the Edit icon to modify any existing type.

  • Click the Delete icon to remove a type.

❗ The default “Manager / Direct Report” type cannot be edited or deleted.

Editable Fields Explained

  • Title
This will appear on the homepage and during relationship creation. Choose a clear, self-explanatory name (e.g., “Mentorship”).

  • Description
Displayed during relationship assignment, this helps users understand what the type means.

  • First/Second Participant Title
These labels define the roles (e.g., “Mentor” and “Mentee”) in dropdowns during relationship assignment.

  • Icon
The icon represents this relationship type in the UI. Custom icons are not supported currently.

  • Can only be added by admin
When toggled on, this type is hidden from end-users and can only be assigned by admins from the Admin Center.

  • Managerial Access
Toggle on if the first participant (e.g., a manager) should have visibility into the second participant’s performance data.

🔄 Refresh Required

After saving your changes, refresh the Teamflect application to ensure updates are reflected across all modules.

HR Use Cases

  1. Mentorship Program Management
Edit participant roles to better reflect career development relationships like “Coach - Talent”.

  2. Matrix Leadership Structures
Tailor access and visibility for project-based or dotted-line supervisors.

  3. Privacy-Controlled Succession Planning
Restrict some relationship types (e.g., “Successor Candidate”) to be admin-only with no user-facing option.

Final Thoughts

With the redesigned Relationships module, Teamflect gives HR teams the flexibility to manage complex organizational structures. Editing relationship types helps ensure that permissions, visibility, and role definitions align with your strategic people initiatives. Be sure to review these settings when launching new HR programs to keep Teamflect aligned with your evolving workforce model.
