How to Bulk Upload Relationships in Teamflect

Learn how to bulk upload employee relationships in Teamflect using the updated CSV import workflow.

Written by Myka

Managing relationships across large or complex teams can be time-consuming. Teamflect’s bulk upload feature allows administrators to assign multiple relationships at once using a CSV file, reducing manual work and making it easier to set up reporting lines, mentorships, and project-based connections.

Understanding Relationship Types and Managerial Access

When bulk uploading relationships, the access granted to the first participant depends on the selected relationship type and its Managerial Access setting.

Relationship types are defined by administrators in the Teamflect Admin Center. To view or configure them, go to Users > Relationships > Manage Relationship Types.

Managerial Access setting

What the first participant can access

ON

After the relationship is approved, the first participant can access the second participant’s relevant private performance data, including goals, reviews, private feedback, and private recognitions.

OFF

The relationship can be created without an approval request, but it does not grant access to private performance data.

The specific relationship types that have Managerial Access enabled depend on your organization's configuration. Check the selected type before uploading your file.

Step-by-Step: Bulk Upload Relationships

1. Navigate to the Admin Center

In the left-side menu, go to: Users > Relationships

2. Click Bulk Upload Relationships.

3. Download Template to get the correct CSV structure.

4. Fill in the CSV File and Upload the File

Click Choose File, select your completed CSV file, and select Start validation.

Once processed, all valid relationships will appear in the table below.

Tips for a Successful Upload:

  1. Participant Order Matters:

    1. First Participant = Manager

    2. Second Participant = Direct report

  2. Email Matching
Ensure both email addresses match users in your Microsoft 365 directory. Otherwise, the relationship won’t be created.

  3. Active Teamflect Users Only
Users must have already been synced or licensed in Teamflect to be included in the upload.

  4. Don’t Leave Columns Blank
Incomplete rows (missing either email) will be skipped.

  5. Managerial Access Applies Automatically
If the selected relationship type includes managerial access, the first participant (e.g., manager) will gain access to the other’s private data (goals, feedback, etc.).

Use Cases

  1. Initial System Rollout
During Teamflect onboarding, HR can populate reporting or mentoring relationships for all employees in one action.

  2. Quarterly Restructuring
Support organizational changes such as team shuffles or new project-based assignments by uploading new relationship mappings.

  3. Cross-Functional Programs
Assign matrix-style leadership, dotted-line managers, or functional mentors across departments without manual entry.

Bulk uploading relationships allows organizations to scale performance processes efficiently while reducing manual data entry errors. With the updated Relationships module, administrators gain clearer control and improved visibility over reporting, mentoring, and coaching structures.

Need to assign multiple relationships at once? This is your go-to feature.
