By default, only administrators and managers can update goals. But you can enable a setting that gives individual goal owners the ability to edit key details of their own goals without needing admin support.

This increases flexibility, empowers ownership, and reduces administrative overhead. In this guide, you’ll learn how to turn on this option in the Admin Center and when it’s most useful, so goal owners can adjust timelines, descriptions, measurements, labels, visibility, and more.

Step 1

Go to the Admin Center from the left-side menu in Teamflect.

Step 2

In the Admin Center, select Modules from the navigation bar, then open the Goals tab.

Step 3

Locate the option Allow goal owners to modify goal details (start–end date, goal value, measurement type, etc.) and toggle it on.

Step 4

Once enabled, goal owners can edit their own goals by clicking the 'Pen' icon in the upper-right corner of a goal.

Step 5

A new tab will open, allowing goal owners to update key details, including:

  • Goal type

  • Title and description

  • Measurement type (reach, stay below, roll-up from task progress, etc.)

  • Start and end dates

  • Parent goal

  • Labels

  • Related Groups

  • Visibility

Use this setting in organizations that value flexibility and accountability, but monitor changes periodically to ensure alignment with company-wide objectives.

Beneficial Use Cases

Empower Goal Ownership

Employees can manage their own goal timelines and targets without waiting for admin intervention, fostering accountability and autonomy.

Increase Agility in Goal Management

When priorities shift, owners can adapt their goals instantly—keeping objectives relevant and aligned with organizational needs.

Reduce Admin Overhead

Free up administrators from routine edits by allowing owners to handle small updates themselves, making processes leaner and faster.

Best Practices

  1. Performance Reviews

    • Encourage employees to adjust their goals ahead of review cycles, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date records.

  2. Project-Based Goals

    • Let project leads manage their own milestones and timelines for greater flexibility.

  3. Employee Development Plans

    • Allow employees to refine their goals as they progress in development programs, keeping objectives personalized and realistic.
